The end product of a weeks worth of materials exploration. Watercolor with ink overtop. I really enjoyed the concept of this image but as soon as I had painted the background I realized I should have made the building recede more and the ground plane in order to emphasize the going back in space. Well, at that point I wasn’t going to make any changes so I just kind of rolled with it.

The last of the older/younger series. Getting a better grip of the watercolor and ink approach. Feeling much more satisfied with the results. Now I need to experiment with page sizes for the actual comics.

More watercolor experiments. Moving in a better direction but I’m not happy with the washed out pigments, must experiment further.

Continued material experimentation with older/younger portraits. This time I’m fooling around with watercolor and ink. Feeling surprisingly happy about the result, not perfect but closer to what I’m trying t do.

Another copic marker and colored pencil exploration. I find this to be a fun medium to work in for short illustrations but I don’t think it would make for a successful comic coloring approach.

Day 2 and 3 as represented by pen and ink and digital flat color. My original intention had been to digitally flat color all of them but I never made it past two. I’ve increasingly found the digital flat color to be displeasing and I dislike the lake of emotion it conveys. That all sounds rather vague but in short, I do not think I will continue to pursue digital flat color without more extensive inking.

The first day of a nine day materials experimentation project. Technically I’m on day three but I’m a little slow on scanning. Done with Copic Markers and Colored Pencil.  I like the final result but I don’t know how viable it is as a method of completing comics.

Two digital color experimentations.

From my next comic’s project, my protagonist Minda Singh, with a tiger. I mostly just wanted to draw the tiger.
