Recent attempts at final art for my comic ‘Thyre of the Icy North.’ Side by side the original traditional inks and the final digital colors.
Revisiting Thyre of the Icy North character designs. Trying out both black and white and color versions.
A Mignola inspired warm up exercise. I recently got ‘The Art of Hellboy’ and have been studying it like crazy. It makes me want to reread all my Hellboy comics. More experimentation with digital coloring and inking.
Five versions of the same image. Trying to sort out exactly how I’m going to finish this comic. Version 4 is my favorite. I guess you can consider this part of the March Madness series.
Today’s March Madness is brought to you by the 1 hr painting. I’m attempting to become more photoshop painting savvy and so I’ve started doing some of these 1 hr speed paintings. I had the whole dress complete but it looked like a total mess so I just left her hair and face done.
Two Maidens (Well technically three, Lucy is a delicate sort of elephant). One final thing for today’s March Madness pile. As I have been stuck at a computer for almost 13 hours straight I have had a lot of time to whip up things in Illustrator. Enjoy this final little addition.
A bit of bonus March Madness. I had some intense inspiration and a bit of desire to draw this one. It was off my 100 random words and phrases list. I just read ‘Precious Treasure’ and this popped into my mind. Technically this is a bit of a spoiler but I doubt anyone will care. Thyre of ‘Thyre of the Icy North’ with her son Ranvir. He’s her first born and he is her most precious treasure. My little alternate title for this is ‘Sleeping Dragon.’ I had fun getting to draw Thyre in some of her Southern Continent costuming for a change.
Today’s March Madness is brought to you by the Hans Christian Anderson story title, ‘The Toad.’ I swear I was going to do this beautiful, epic, art nouveau crossed with a byzantine icon illustration of a toad floating like he was Jesus. Then well, I got to work, got to my 6 hour break and this popped into my head. Have you heard of the Toad?
Also for giggles I did a quick image of the toad in question.
